Join the 30,000+ calling for a ban on superintelligence
The Future of Life Institute's open letter has been signed by AI experts, Nobel laureates, politicians, artists, and tens of thousands of ordinary people.
This is huge.
An open letter released by the Future of Life Institute this week is calling for a ban on the development of superintelligent AI, at least until:
There is broad scientific consensus that it will be done safely and controllably.
There is strong public buy-in.
It’s been signed by over 30,000 people, including the two most cited living scientists (Geoffrey Hinton and Yoshua Bengio), Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Richard Branson, Prince Harry, former President of Ireland Mary Robinson, Grimes, Stephen Fry, Kate Bush, will.i.am, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Steve Bannon, …
You get the picture.
It’s just waiting for one more signature - yours!

Many of us in PauseAI have already added our names to the letter, alongside people from ControlAI, MIRI, FLI, and the Center for AI Safety. It’s received widespread media coverage, and is proving to be a historic moment in the fight against uncontrollable superintelligence.
The letter is in alignment with PauseAI’s public statement:
We call on the governments of the world to sign an international treaty implementing a pause on the training of the most powerful general AI systems, until we know how to build them safely and keep them under democratic control.
New polling released alongside the letter found that just 5% of Americans are satisfied with the current race to develop superhuman AI as quickly as possible.
64% agreed that superhuman AI should either never be developed, or at least not until there’s scientific consensus that it will be safe. This is consistent with every other poll we have on the issue. People understand that the unregulated race to build superintelligence could end in disaster.
How you can help
We must now double our efforts. The success of this moment will be determined by how you and I capitalise on it.
Five things you can do right now:
Tell a friend or family member about the letter
Contact your politician about the letter
Share the letter on social media
Upload a selfie to our Say No To Superintelligent AI campaign
The path towards an international treaty is long. We don’t know if we’ll make it in time. But, with this letter, a huge stride has been made. I think I can just about smell the ink.
Enjoy your weekend!

It's interesting how this movement is gaining such momentum; thank you for highlighting this cruical call for a pause on superintelligence training, as prioritizing safety and democratic control is paramoumt.
